Race Tracks

I tried motocross racing a couple times. I did OK but I didn’t have that ‘killer instinct.’ I would always push for preserving the body versus winning. But, I do love launching off a double and flying through the air. It’s just one of those things that feels right. When I was a kid we thought using a car hood as a ramp to get 10 feet was pretty cool, but now with the high-tech bikes, that’s a joke. If you take the time to learn how to jump properly it’s as smooth as glass unless you come up short (or in my case sometimes jumping too far). My favorite track story is when I was at a local track, which is sadly closed now. I was doing my [...]

Desert Racing

My favorite race of the year is the Desert 100 put on by the Stump Jumpers, from Washington. They are a family oriented, off-road, motorcycle club that loves to have fun while promoting motorcycling and the safe use of motorcycles. Racers come from all over the states, and even further, to participate. Personally I started going to this race about 25 years ago and have only missed two years in all that time. It was just me and my Dad in a small camper. We would ride the Poker Run on Saturday, and then on Sunday Dad was my pit [...]

In e-mail marketing, there are two pieces of data that are commonly used to evaluate success; the open rate and the click-through rate. A common misconception is that the open rate is a good indicator of response, and it is if your open rate is being tracked reliably. Unfortunately it’s becoming harder and harder to accurately track the open-rate. When you consider that the margin of error for the open rate can range anywhere from 11% - 35%, it’s hard to understand how the open rate provides any real value for determining success. Why is the open rate so unreliable? In order to understand why the open rate isn’t a reliable metric, we first need to understand how it’s calculated. Open rates are typically tracked using a transparent 1x1 pixel [...]
